This is our first view of the lava flow taken with the
telephoto from over a mile away. |
Here we are with two friends we met at the park, Eric and
Stacy. This is where the original lava flow stopped and where we started our
hike. We had to park our car here. Of course, you can see why we couldn't go
any further. |
The Hike was tough over the old lava but we had fun
getting there. |
We had some rather challenging spots to navigate. Still,
very interesting. |
Still, it was worth it when we saw lava like this from
only a 1/4 mile away. Again, taken with a telephoto. |
You can kinda see the lava as it flows off the mountain.
As you can see, we got quite a bit closer to the lava
flow. Try to remember the rock you see us standing on. You'll see it again in
the next few photos. |
Pretty interesting stuff. This is old lava. |
Here Shannon and Eric are getting some close shots |
This stuff was hot. This was taken iwth a normal lens.
The lava was flowing at about 20' per minute. |
Here you can see the rock we were standing on just 5'
infront of the lava flow. |
Some people got even closer than we did but may have
regretted loosing their eyebrows. |
You can see it was quite popular even with a 2 hour hike
from the car. |
